WhatsApp Setup

Last updated: March 2026

WhatsApp Business API integration lets your AI agent communicate with customers on the world's most popular messaging app. You connect through Meta's Business platform, and OpenClaw handles the messaging bridge automatically.

Requirements

Before you begin, make sure you have the following:

  • A Meta Business account registered at business.facebook.com
  • Meta Business verification completed (required for WhatsApp Business API access)
  • A phone number that is not already registered with WhatsApp Messenger or another WhatsApp Business account

Warning

WhatsApp Business API requires Meta Business verification, which can take 2-5 business days. Start this process before you need the channel live.

Step-by-step setup

1

Create a Meta Business account

Go to business.facebook.com and create an account for your business. If you already have one, sign in and continue to the next step.

2

Set up WhatsApp Business API access

In the Meta Business Suite, go to Settings > Business Assets > WhatsApp Accounts. Follow the prompts to add a WhatsApp Business account and register your phone number. Meta sends a verification code to the number you provide.

3

Generate a permanent access token

In the Meta Developer Portal, navigate to your app and generate a permanent System User access token with the whatsapp_business_messaging permission. Copy this token. You need it for the OneClickClaw configuration.

4

Open the Channels page in OneClickClaw

Log in to your OneClickClaw dashboard. Navigate to your agent, then go to Channels and click Add WhatsApp.

5

Enter your phone number ID and access token

Paste your WhatsApp phone number ID (found in the Meta Business Suite under your WhatsApp account settings) and your permanent access token into the corresponding fields.

6

Verify the connection

Click Save. OneClickClaw validates your credentials, configures the WhatsApp bridge on your server, and activates the channel. The status indicator turns green when the connection is live.

7

Test by sending a message

Open WhatsApp on your phone and send a message to the phone number you registered. Your agent should reply within a few seconds. If you see a response, the integration is working.

Test the connection

After setup, your agent responds to any WhatsApp message sent to the registered number. Customers reach your agent using the same app they use daily, with no additional installs or accounts needed.

Tip

WhatsApp is ideal for customer support bots. Customers can reach your agent using the same app they use daily.
